Escape the tourist crowds and get creative! Join a local architect and artist in her private home-studio for an intimate masterclass on the art of tile painting. In this small-group setting, you'll master traditional techniques at your own pace, all while sharing coffee, tea, and warm pastéis de nata.
Over two and a half hours, you’ll uncover the secrets of Portugal’s most iconic craft as you hand-paint two custom tiles, gathered around a cozy table with people who may arrive as strangers but often leave as friends.
More than just a souvenir, you will carry home the feeling of being welcomed into a local’s life, the stories behind the classic azulejos, and a unique memory shaped by your own hands.

As you arrive, you’ll be wrapped in the atmosphere of a real working home-studio. Let your senses take over: the colours arranged in small jars, the textures of brushes and pigments, the quiet stacks of tiles waiting to be transformed, the sketches and art books that fill the shelves.

Take your place at our cozy worktable with a warm cup of tea or coffee in hand. Before painting, we’ll journey through the centuries-old story of Portuguese tiles—how they evolved, what they meant to the people who made them, and why they became such a beloved expression of Portuguese culture.

You’ll be guided gently through each step of the traditional tile-painting process—from preparation to the final strokes.
With patience and care, you’ll paint two tiles, discovering the quiet joy of becoming an artisan, even if just for a few hours.
No experience needed—only a willingness to create. -
Creativity pairs perfectly with flavour! To sweeten your creative process, we'll indulge in freshly baked pastéis de nata (traditional custard tarts), turning the experience into a true gathering among friends.

Once your painting is complete, your tiles begin their transformation in the kiln. Fired at temperatures exceeding 1000°C, they undergo a full day cycle of heating, baking, and cooling. This essential step vitrifies the glaze, resulting in their signature brilliance and lifelong durability.
Pickup: Your creations will be ready to collect the following day.

All You Need To Know
Length of workshop: 2.5 hours
Number of people: To maintain the cozy atmosphere, groups are limited to a maximum of 8 participants.
Age Requirement: We love hosting young creators! However, due to the high fragility of the materials involved in the session, we recommend it for ages 10 and up.
Languages: English and Spanish
Location: At our home-studio in Matosinhos, Porto. Only a short ride away from Porto city center and right next to the “Estadio do Mar” metro station (exact address provided upon booking).
Price per person: € 40
This price includes all painting materials (2 ceramic tiles to paint, pigments, brushes, and tools), firing service, drinks (water, tea and coffee) and local pastry (pastel de nata).
Key Considerations for Accessibility: Please be advised that the studio entrance involves a short flight of stairs. Due to this gap and the lack of a ramp before reaching the elevators, the entrance is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible at this time.
Remember: Tiles require to be fired in a ceramic kiln, that's why they'll be ready for collection the next day after the workshop. We promise, the result is worth the waiting!
